Zeroxwallah Zine was one of our earliest publications. True to the subject, the zine was typically DIY, photocopied and later screenprinted over with YELLOW ink. Some looked at the zine as a unique object and a collectible with a strong connect to the subject, while some others shuddered at the thought of a photocopied booklet. (Hello bookstore chains, this one is not for you!)
Prof. Teal Triggs from Royal College of Art, author of Fanzines (one of the earliest and most extensive documentation of the evolution of fanzines) had this to say about it: “Zeroxwallah Zine presents a fresh perspective on the DIY technology of zine making and the photocopier. Kulavoor captures the vibrant and thriving street culture of India via photocollage, representations of street signage, and the bright yellows of the zeroxwallah kiosks. You can almost hear the beeping horns of the motorscooters. A homage to the tactility of an antiquated but still relevant production process”.
Our experience with ZZ laid the foundation to our approach towards art+design, books and self-publishing. We followed it up with The Ghoda Cycle Project, Bluedbook and our OhFlip series of flipbooks, all unique and very well received!
